The Daily Telegraph online has produced a story on the extension of the Mercure Sydney Liverpool property.
Mercure Hotel Liverpool is expanding. The new 11-storey building will have views of the Sydney CBD skyline.
Work is underway at the Mercure Hotel in Liverpool, with an expansion planned that will see its accommodation capacity almost double.
The $30 million development includes an 11-storey tower that will connect to its existing building and will have views of the Sydney CBD skyscrapers.
It also means more jobs for locals, with the workforce expected to jump to more than 50 upon completion of stage two.
The extra 84 rooms will include rooms to accommodate long-term visitors, providing more apartment-style living with a kitchenette.
Hotel manager Chris Donovan said customers were staying in hotels for weeks or months and often prefer a more self-contained space.

“There is a growing demand for accommodation in general, but we are also in a rapidly growing part of Sydney. “There are all sorts of businesses and government departments moving to the west because of the cost of land.”
Mr Donovan said being located at the junction of the M7 and M5 gave their visitors easy access. “And looking forward, we’ve got the likes of Badgerys Creek airport being built,” he said.
“We’ll definitely be expecting to see some demand from work at the airport.
In addition to the rooms, two floors of function rooms are part of the expansion, tailored to corporate customers.
“We’ve got existing function facilities for big events and conventions and weddings,” he said. “But we find that we run out of smaller boardroom-style spaces — that’s what we’re adding there. “Plus eight floors of new accommodation, giving us 192 rooms in total.”
Builders will be on site until mid 2017, when the extension is due to open.
Mercure Hotel Liverpool opened at the end of 2009 and a few years later, stage two was earmarked.
Mr Donovan said there was always going to be room to grow on the site. “When the original plans were done, they were done is it could be extended. “The original grand plan had the capacity for a large scale development, broken down into stages. “And we’ve got the capacity to expand beyond stage two. There is scope to add more.”
The hotel adjoins the Liverpool Catholic Club on Hoxton Park Rd.
